ALBUM REVISIT: Passive Me, Aggressive You
10 years ago i was about to start business school (where i would eventually meet my co-founder, matt sidhom) — and it was at that time that i was introduced to this fantastic album by The Naked and Famous . i was instantly hooked — notably by track 5, The Sun, which is incredibly moody/dark. it starts so quietly you almost wonder if the song didn’t start yet, but then this deep bass line begins…and then their voices come on top of it almost in a whisper , and it keeps growing into this incredibly synth-rock-noise explosion for about a minute, only to take it all away again and get quieter over the last 30 seconds.
as i’ve said on the podcast at least once before, if you want me to love a song, have it build up and crescendo into a mass of sound and noise that just requires me to turn up the volume even louder and just lose myself to the music. it’s the BEST.
if you’ve never heard this album, definitely check it out today! it holds up even after 11 years, and can easily be played start->finish without skipping any tracks.
