Covers Mix vol 1: who did it better?
In our covers mix, we cover the topic of covers! I had to, I’m sorry.
We bring up covers a lot in our podcast, and with good reason — there are a lot of them! We’ve concluded that often covers fall into one of these categories as a listener:
They largely sound the same as the original, with maybe a bit of a personal touch by the band.
They sound a lot better than the original (our episode tries to cover this scenario!)
They sound worse than the original (sad).
Obviously these are all subjective opinions but that’s the nature of music and art, right?
In either case, what really sparked the idea for this podcast is that we went on as guests on another show called Rank The Beatles — where our song was We Can Work It Out by the Beatles, which was later covered by Stevie Wonder — who we think did it way better. That whole discussion got us to finally decide to make a volume 1 of our covers mix, asking the question: who did it better?
What was fun/unique about this mix tape is that we did still stick to the 12 song format (Matt and I each picking 6), but we included the original + the cover on our mix tape, totaling 24 songs. You can listen to the playlist on Spotify here, and see our song selection below:
