We started this business with a core thought: Mixtapes tell stories. Each song is selected to represent a memory of a moment, or a shared experience between two or more people. We love the art of creating a mix tape—the difficulty in selecting each song, having a limit of songs (so you can’t just endlessly create a playlist with thousands of songs), and figuring out the order of each song and why they all belong where they do.
We wanted to bring some of that magic back! But these days who has a cassette player? And how do you even share music with a group of people that all have a mix of Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, etc?

Tips & Tricks for making the perfect mix tape
Remember there’s a limit of 16 songs! This makes it more enjoyable for the person receiving the mix. Have you ever received a playlist with 1000+ songs on it? What was the chance you were actually going to listen to each song? Getting a mix of 12-16 songs though is perfect. It’s like an album curated entirely by you!
Start off with a theme! Setting a theme helps bring this mix tape all together. It could be a Valentine’s Day mix of songs that you both love, or that you listened to on your first several dates. It could be a graduation mix of songs that were popular during your senior year at school. It could be a party mix to kick off a new year! Or it could be a birthday mix for someone turning 80 (like we had a customer do!) featuring music from their youth 60 years ago. Who wouldn’t want to feel 60 years younger?
Think about the starting song and ending song, especially. The first song sets the mood, and the last song can send you out with a bang! Most research shows that people tend to remember their most recent experience of something, so the last song is a great way to finish out a perfect mix and send your listener off with a smile on their face. (or maybe happy tears!)
