Monday Music: The music worth checking out this week
Here’s what we’re listening to this Monday going into the week of October 18th.
Music I'm currently obsessed with - Oct 18
Tonight, Tonight by Passion Pit
Still listening and loving this cover by Passion Pit. I always loved the original by Smashing Pumpkins — it’s a beautiful song (from their 1995 album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness). This one still has that haunting quality to it, but perks it up and modernizes it a bit, in my opinion. Love love love it.
Passive by A Perfect Circle
I recently re-discovered my love for A Perfect Circle, and have been going back through and listening to more of their music. This song is like it was engineered to be loved by me. As if they wrote it just so that one day I could find it and be like: Yes. I want more of this. It starts off soft, then the drums and guitars come in, and it just gets better from there. Then of course it ends with some scream singing, making you just want to raise the volume and sing along and let it all out.
PERFECTION.
The Doomed by A Perfect Circle
This was the other discovery that I fell in love with instantly. There are a couple of sections of guitar/drums that are so good.
Endless [album] by Magic Sword
My friend introduced me to Magic Sword, and I can’t stop listening to them. This album from 2020 is just like a synth masterpiece.
It opens with Death of Power — an incredible opening track for an album. You know exactly what you’re getting with a song like this.
I find this kind of music, similar to Tron’s soundtrack (by Daft Punk), to be so good to work to. Without lyrics, you aren’t finding yourself distracted by words…and the beats are solid, consistent, and you can listen as loud or as quietly as you want.
I feel like I should be in a crazy light show when I listen to this music.
The other notable mention off this album is the song Aftermath, which has very strong Stranger Things vibe to it. So much so that I had to make sure they didn’t do the music for the tv show. (Looks like it’s another group that did).
Paranoid by Palaye Royale
New rock music? Yes please. Great crescendo in this song. I also appreciate that they phonetically spelled out Palais (the French word for palace).
Happier Than Ever by Billie Eilish
One of the best turns in a song, ever. The second half of this song is just pure fire 🔥. I keep listening to this on repeat — especially minute 2:18 where the song turns dark, angry, and fiery. Another perfect song from an incredible talented musician.
