Music Worth Listening To - Jun 25

on the June 25th edition of “what music should i listen to?” , we have the following new releases and a classic singer that is worth (re)visiting!

Nothing Else Matters by Miley Cyrus, featuring WATT, Elton John, Yo-Yo Ma, Robert Trujilio and Chad Smith.

yes, take a moment to re-read that, because i had to read it many times for it to truly sink in. she did a cover of the amazing Metallica song with an unbelievable, eclectic mix of artists, including Metallica’s own bassist, and the drummer from Red Hot Chili Peppers. and Yo-Yo Ma (who has an unmistakable solo in the song). it’s a fantastic cover — she can do incredible things with her voice.

Bad Habits by Ed Sheeran

ok this song continues to prove that no matter what Ed Sheeran puts out, i will not only listen to it, but i will love it, and move to it. it starts a bit quietly, and then this fun bass line kicks in, and you’re just in it and have to keep listening. the video is campy, and features him as a vampire heading out for a crazy night with other creatures-of-the-night. worth a listen!

CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST by Tyler, The Creator

Tyler, The Creator released his latest album today — CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST — and it’s 🔥🔥🔥. the track LUMBERJACK, released earlier, features the chorus: “Rolls-Royce pull up, Black boy hop out / Shoutout to my mother and my father, didn’t pull out”. i mean, with lyrics like that, how can you go wrong with the rest of the album?

JUGGERNAUT is nearly impossible to listen to without turning the volume up — the bass line, the sounds in the background, all layered underneath his lyrics — it’s 2 minutes 26 seconds of musical joy.

MUSIC FROM FOREVER AGO THAT IS STILL AWESOME 🎧🎧

Lovely Day by Bill Withers

ok, so i had no idea just how much i love Bill Withers and his music. it all started when i was given a mix with Lovely Day on it, and it triggered a sound memory. i knew i had heard this before, but it wasn’t his original version. turns out, it was Alt J’s cover of the song (which is magical / mystical in its sound, and worth listening to also).

but then i couldn’t get over his voice, the original beat of this song, and the feel it gives you as you listen. so i went digging more into his music — and he’s known some unbelievable hits like Ain’t No Sunshine, Just the Two Of Us, Lean On Me, and Use Me. if you haven’t heard his music before (SUPER AWESOME MIX is a judgement-free zone. it’s ok!), then spend some of this weekend putting on his top hits & deeper cuts. you won’t be disappointed.
