The 12 best new songs from Sept to Oct 2021
Our latest episode dove into new music — starting from September 10th to October 15.
This was such a fun episode to record, because we had to basically approach our mix differently — it required us to go outside our comfort zone and try to find music that we hadn’t heard yet. It was also really fun to introduce each other to these songs. We hope that our listeners were introduced to a sound that they enjoyed, and maybe even a new band!
For some of the songs, we went with bands we knew that had new releases. For some of the other songs, we went totally on the hunt for something completely new. That can always be a bit challenging — for some reason the thought of listening to new music always feels like hard work? — but it was totally worth it.
Here’s the mix:
Face Off by TechN9ne, Joey Cool, King Iso, Dwayne Johnson
Yes, that Dwayne Johnson.
Justine Go Genesis by Sleigh Bells
Sleigh Bells have a new album, and it’s so good! This is my favorite song off it.
CRAIG HODGES by Mega Ran
Mega Ran is going to be a guest on our show, so we wanted to feature his latest album here as well! It’s fantastic.
LIFE AFTER SALEM by Lil Nas X
Lil Nas X’s album explores all kinds of sounds — it’s so wonderful. This song, near the end of the album, is a dark look into his feelings about either a bad relationship, or possibly his relationship with the media. It’s haunting and an incredible track off an album I’ve had on repeat since its release.
You and Me On The Rock by Brandi Carlile, Lucius
New album by Brandi Carlile! A beautiful song.
The Dying Blood by Third Eye Blind
Third Eye Blind is still at it and still producing music that I love. This is my favorite song off their album, and is probably their most “Third Eye Blind” sound.
Fragile Peace And Certain War by Carolyn Wonderland
A singer from outside Dallas, TX and worth featuring here! Her voice is fantastic, and this is a clever song lyrically. Really enjoyed this one.
Highway to Hell by Tom Morello, Bruce Springsteen, and Eddie Vedder
I mean, do I need to explain why I picked this one? Tom Morello, Bruce, and Eddie Vedder on a single track — and that track is covering an AC/DC song? Yes please.
Nightswimming by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Bela Fleck, Chris Thile
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit — so talented, and absolutely worth putting on your radar if you don’t know them.
I Don’t Want to Talk by Wallows
This band was one that I went searching for and hadn’t heard. It’s got a great sound (for a song all about a crumbling relationship).
Jazz on the Autobahn by The Felice Brothers
A clever take on the end of the world — with a great, catchy beat the whole way through.
U&ME by alt-J
alt-J is coming out with a new album next year, and this is their first single off it. I have high hopes for this new album!
